I approach wearable art as a form of artful design, creating one-of-a-kind felted garments in which color, texture, line, pattern, and form become a unified composition. My goal is to create wearable art. Each design begins with the placement of silk, wool, viscose, metallic fibers, ribbons, and other materials. Silk provides the foundation for layers of fiber that are arranged, felted, painted, and manipulated to create depth, texture, movement, and unexpected visual relationships. I embrace the unpredictable nature of felting, allowing experimentation to become part of the design. My background in graphic design influences my approach. After beginning my design career in 1974, I was drawn to felting as a tactile way to explore composition. Working directly with fiber allows me to translate graphic design principles into three-dimensional form. I strive to create a balance of design, craftsmanship, and spontaneity. I want each wearer to feel they are wearing a unique work of art.
